Traditional Chinese herbal Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system of health care founded on oriental views of the universe and it’s models of existence such as Yin and Yang, Qi/energy, or the 5 Elements. The appropriate treatment methods for a specific patient are selected on the basis of information gathered by Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnostic techniques. This information is then interpreted according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles about physiology, health and illness. The results guide the use of acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.

A qualified practitioner is able to prescribe a Chinese herbal formula that specifically matches and treats your individual health problem. As your condition changes and improves with treatment, the Chinese herbal treatment is also adjusted and modified until the desired health outcome is achieved.

Herbal Medicine in Traditional Chinese Medicine describes formulas which are made from the roots, stems, bark, leaves, seeds or flowers of many plants, as well as some mineral and animal parts. The herbs are usually decocted into a soup. Some come in ready-prepared pill or powder, called ‘patent’ herbal remedies.

Chinese herbal medicines are very safe when prescribed correctly by a properly trained practitioner. Over the centuries doctors have compiled detailed information about the pharmacopoeia and placed great emphasis on the protection of the patient.
Chinese Herbs are known to have a synergistic action along with acupuncture to promote healing and to give good relief. When used in combination with Acupuncture, they are known to correct energetic imbalances in the body.

Herbal decoction:
This method is to make an herbal soup from roots, stems, bark, leaves, seeds or flowers of many plants, as well as some mineral and animal parts. Boil, and then simmer the herbs in water for about 20-30 minutes. Herbal decoction can be used for oral administration or rinsing affected body areas.

Pre-prepared “patent” herbal medicines
Also popular and widely used in China are pre-prepared herbal products, or “patent” herbal medicines. They are usually in pill form, or sometimes as granules or as drinks, and creams may sometimes be used for skin conditions. Pre-prepared herbal pills are convenient to take, and a familiar format for those not accustomed to Chinese medicine.

Concentrated Herbal Extract powders
Herbs may also be taken as concentrated powders. These can be individually prescribed like raw herbs, but unlike raw herbs they do not need to be boiled up into a decoction.
